I am once again seeking election this November to the office of Greenland State Representative.  I have been honored and am grateful for your past support and hope my efforts in Concord over the past two years will warrant your vote on election day.  Although we have made some progress in changing state government to reflect our shared values and concerns, there is significant work ahead that requires our immediate attention.

We open the next biennium with  $600 million in unfunded programs. That means, without changing one thing, we are already in a deficit situation assuming revenues reach the budgeted levels.  Our state budget needs a serious makeover.  Our revenues have fallen short of the unrealistic predictions by lawmakers.  We must have a non-partisan outside commission setting our economic projections if we want a realistic budget.

I recently met with a group of business leaders to discuss the coming year and how the government could help improve the economy.  Interestingly, the biggest concern was not taxes (though that was almost tied), it was regulation.  If you have ever tried to open a business or build something, you know the amount of red tape one faces.  What we need is a clear standard that defines what type of business and services that need to be licensed and permits necessary to help maintain the health and safety of the public. If we make our state business friendly, our economy will grow and thus our tax revenue to the state will increase.

Two years ago, my legislative priorities were: keeping the New Hampshire advantage, bringing spending in line with growth, and a light at Route 33 and Bayside Road. I have worked towards these initiatives and will continue to pursue those we have not yet accomplished.   I believe I have represented all citizens of Greenland,  be it answering requests for help on a pot hole or voting on legislation. My voting record reflects my commitment to keep our taxes down and against the downshifting of costs to our county and town.  My communication has always been two-way; I’ve kept you informed of the happenings in Concord via my website and the Greenland Grapevine and have answered emails and phone calls.  My priorities for the next biennium include: open government,  improving the NH advantage, and local control and will work for bills that represent these ideals.

Very difficult decisions will need to be made to address the budget and to foster economic development in our state in the upcoming years.  I believe that my experience in the state house has prepared me to meet these challenges and be a part of the solution for New Hampshire’s budget issues.  I hope you will join with me to tackle these issues and I sincerely hope that I can count on your support now and on November 2nd.  I am available to answer your questions and am easily accessible through Facebook; telephone 431-8982; email: pamzt@comcast.net; or website: www.pamtucker.org.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully,

Pam Tucker
